2010- Summer letter to RMS Football
Players and Parents
May 24, 2010
RMS Football Players:
Hello. I hope that each one of you
is looking forward to a great, safe and fun summer vacation. I
am writing this letter to you to inform you and your parents of
our summer workouts and conditioning schedule. In order for our
Russellville Middle School Football players to get bigger,
stronger, and faster and be competitive, we will have summer
workouts. These workouts are not and cannot be mandatory, but if
you want to get better then you will try to come to as many
workouts as possible. This includes all 7th graders
and 8th graders since you have your own separate
teams. We will workout together. I know that many of you have
already scheduled summer vacations, church trips, and trips to
see parents, grandparents or relatives. If you have, take them.
DO NOT CANCEL OR POSTPONE VACATIONS OR TRIPS, ETC. to come to
summer workouts. RMS football workouts will be here when you get
back. Enjoy the time away with your family and friends and do
not worry about football. It is important to get away from
football for a while. I will be gone a day or so myself as well
as our coaches with their families. However if you are in town
please try to make every effort to come to our workouts. It will
only make you better. I do need to mention that just because you
come to all or some summer workouts does not mean that you will
be starting in the fall. That depends on you and your
attitude, who comes to practice and who does best when we start
practicing in the fall. It just gives you a chance to stay
in shape and get stronger. We will also be going over our
offensive plays with our skill people and linemen. We will have
more time to put in new plays and work on what we did this
spring. It will just make us and you better.
Beginning on Monday June 7
and every Monday and Thursday throughout the months of June and
July we will workout from 8:30- 11:00 am in Shorts and
T-Shirts. Also bring your football shoes to practice in.
We will meet at the RMS gym at 8 AM. At 8:30, we will go to
the practice field and work on our offense with the QB, WR, TE,
RB throwing, catching and running plays and the offensive
linemen doing drills and going over the plays. From 9:30- 10:00
we will condition on the practice field. From 10:00-11:00 we
will workout in the top of the RMS gym. This will be for RMS
coaches and players only. Parents are not allowed in the
weight room. At 11:00 we will be dismissed to go home.
Please make sure you have someone at the RMS gym to pick you up
at 11:00.
We will be off the week of July
5-9. We will return to practice on Monday July 12 at 8AM.
Our last workout day will be Thursday July 22.
There will be a youth football camp
on Wednesday June 9 and Thursday June 10 from 8 AM-12 noon at
the RHS Football field and practice fields. The cost of the
camp is $30.00 per player. I highly encourage and
would like for as many middle school football players to attend
this camp as possible if you are in town. It will be
taught and coached by the Russellville Coaching staff.
Also you and your parents can go to
our RMS website to view our summer and fall football calendar of
events at
www.rcs.k12.al.us , click on Russellville Middle School and
then go to football. The calendar has the summer workout
schedule along with fall activities and the 2010 football
schedule. You can also go to GoldenTigers.net; scroll
down to middle school football and the same calendar will be
there as well. I am also sending each player/parent a copy of
the summer calendar for their use. Please check frequently for
updates.
We are planning to have a
Russellville Middle School Football Parent and Player night on
Tuesday August 3 at 7 pm in the RMS cafeteria. We will go
over rules, sign insurance waivers, sell T-Shirts, etc. I highly
encourage all parents to attend this meeting. There will be more
about this as the summer goes on. Please look on the website for
updates.
We will start fall practice on
Monday August 9 (first day of school). We will have a
coaches and players’ ONLY meeting in the field house after
school. We will also give out shorts and shirts on this day as
well. We will practice until 5:00. Players will not be allowed
to practice if they have not signed a new insurance waiver. This
is for ALL players.
I want to tell each one of you how
proud I am to be your football coach. I also want each one of
you to know how proud I am of you and that I love and respect
each one of you for the great job you did this spring. I was
very pleased with your effort and am very excited about our
upcoming season.
I hope that all of you and your
families have a wonderful and safe summer vacation. If you need
me for anything please feel free to call me at 331-3514.
Sincerely yours,
Larry Gilmer
